project for scavenging visual materials from the web for redistribution.
- for a start, 'visual' is relative or just convenient - more or less any data could have a graphic header appended to it & then distributed as an image (same with audio I guess)
- I'm interested in existing visual elements - both for their content considered purely as such (representations) AND for the fact of their selection: someone has seen fit to put them up there.
What is involved in the distribution system?
1) a robot to traverse URLs & gather images
2) an image repository
3) an image compositing system
4) an image server - encompassing functions of sequencing & distributing images
5) display - ie. a web-browser
* a special client that provides a kiosk-mode for projection: a firefox-based client running full-screen which refreshes itself by polling a server.
